Quick Google Flights, How to Find Power Port Hack!

Flying for pleasure or business has changed through the years and so has the number of devices one may carry with them. The dreaded four hour (or more) flight with zero entertainment caused by a dying device can be devasting for some. Add in the oh crap! I still need to download that file or Netflix series moment and boom your device has already burned up its battery.

How to keep your devices alive!

We have found what we call a tiny Google Flights hack! Airline websites do show if there is power or Wi-Fi on board the specific aircraft for your selected flight, it is never easily found. Some are listed on the first booking page, some are found on additional details, some seem to be non-existent at all. With these you might as well guess what type of aircraft you are going to get at all. Which if you’re traveling on the right day might just happen if delays are incurred and an aircraft swap is needed. So this may not be fool proof, but that is why we end up using the likes of Google Flights. All airlines except Southwest will typically show what amenities the aircraft should have. This can easily be found after setting up a search on Google Flights, similar to the one in the example below.

Quick tip after using the above. Most if not all domestic airlines using a 737-800,900, or MAX Series typically have the charging ports. Also most Airbus A320 and A321s have them too.

Last little advice nugget…

If you prefer avoiding the use of your own device to be entertained on a flight we then recommend flying Delta as they have noted that they will keep their IFE (In Flight Entertainment) on board for now! We are sure that is subject to change once Wi-Fi and steaming in the air becomes even more relevant though.

Albeit battery life is getting longer in our daily tech it is still always a nice safety net to have the charging ports available for us tech driven travelers! Let us know in our comment section if you have any other hacks regarding in flight Wi-Fi and charging!
