Day Three
One of the adventures we had actually pre-planned during our trip was Park Gรผell. A couple months before our trip we had scheduled an early morning tour at Park Gรผell on this specific date. We had read reviews that recommended going in the morning because of how busy it gets with other tourists. We took a taxi (the fare was inexpensive) to the park right before it opened and there were only a few people there who were a part of the same tour group we had signed up for. The tour was absolutely great, definitely worth the money. We learned about the history of the park and of Gaudรญ (among other artists) through our tour guide. During our visit the park was under some restorations, but everything at the time was open of us to explore.
We were done with our tour by 10am and decided to go into the cafe for a late breakfast, croissants and coffee. As we enjoyed our food we noticed that tons of people were pouring into the park and it became extremely busy and it was more difficult to take pictures.
We left Park Gรผell and decided to take the scenic route on foot back towards the hotel. We ended up walking to the beach and marina, passing La Sagrada Familia on the way. During this side adventure, we stopped for sandwiches and ordered a chicken and a tuna sandwich, boy did that hit the spot! The sandwich shop is located right across The Plaza Monumental de Barcelona, often known as La Monumental. Interesting fact: it is a bullring and was the last bullfighting arena in commercial operation in Catalonia (Wikipedia).
As we continued on, we made our way to the Barceloneta Beach that was created for the 1992 Olympics, then headed towards the Gothic Quarter. We stopped for sangrias and croquets, wandered a bit more, then had some Aperol Spritz, and snacks at La Bona Sort. After another successful day spent putting miles on our feet, dinner had decided to be room service–in comfy robes and slippers.
