Sights and Activities In Oahu

Here is a quick list of things that we have personally experienced during our trips to Oahu. We hope this gives you inspiration for your own trip!

Accommodations

  • Outrigger Beach Resort on Waikiki
    • Awesome spot to bounce between the beach/ocean and their pool
    • Stayed there in 2017
  • The Laylow Autograph Collection
    • Stayed there in 2021
    • We liked staying here, but parking is super tight.  They only have street parking available down an ally that gets filled up fast.  We parked our rental in the shopping parking garage next door.  The hotel gave us a key-fob to get in and out of the garage at anytime for a fee $39/day (due at check-out).
    • They have a coffee shop and bar & restaurant (Hideout) located in the hotel, good food and fun cocktails!

Activities To Do

  • Take a walk down Waikiki and check out the famous statue Duke Paoa Kahanamoku.
  • Diamond Head – easy hike with great views, get there early!ย  Very popular and a โ€œmust doโ€ for Oahu.
  • International Market Place for shopping and restaurants (right next to Laylow Hotel).
  • Sunset Beach – at the North shore.
  • Sandy Beach – nice to go watch surfers, not meant for swimming, but still great to sit at.
  • Halona Beach Cove/Blow Hole – great stop for sight seeing.
  • Waimanalo Beach – our FAVORITE!!! So beautiful and not as busy, usually great for swimming.
  • Hanauma Bay – cool and educational experience with beautiful snorkeling.ย  Might be open, might be closedโ€ฆ check for tickets online if you want to go, books up real quick!ย
  • Koko Head Crater Railway Trailhead – an awesome and challenging hike with gorgeous views.ย  Go early in the morning before it gets too hotโ€ฆyouโ€™ll be sweating!
  • Makaha Beach – West shore, great beach for swimming and relaxing.
  • Laniakea Beach aka Turtle Beach – North shore, this is the beach to find sea turtles!ย  We just read they put in a pedestrian crosswalk to cross the street (parking is on one side then you have to cross a busy road to get to the beach), awesome spot for swimming and snorkeling.ย
  • Botanical Gardens

Places To Eat

  • Shorefyre in the shopping mall-had good food, we ate dinner and breakfast there
  • Kona Brewing Co. โ€“ awesome beer/ciders and pizza.
  • Koko Head Cafรฉ – our absolute FAVORITE brunch place ever.ย  A good spot for authentic Asian/Hawaiian based meals, we always have great service there.
  • Honolulu Beer Works – great brewery with food.
  • Aloha Brewing Co. – another great brewery with food, try the kimchi fries!
  • Island Brew Coffee House – delicious coffee and breakfast with large outdoor patio seating.
  • La Pina Cantina – we enjoyed happy hour drinks and tacos, it was pretty good!
  • Heavenly Island – breakfast place, limited menu, all organic and healthy choices
  • Poke for the People – awesome poke bowls!! We got it to-go and ate in our car. The entire area is SUPER busy with tourists so traffic can be rough, (Haleiwa, small town with many food trucks and small restaurants).
  • Royโ€™s – fancy expensive restaurant, but delicious!ย
  • Dukeโ€™s – a typical โ€œmust go toโ€ in Hawaii, but in our opinion not worth the Hype, somewhat pricey for what they have and the wait to get in was long.
  • Maui Brewing Co. – nice atmosphere, good beer and food. Sometimes they have live music!
  • Teddyโ€™s Bigger Burgers – really delicious burgers!
  • Hula Grill – an amazing restaurant on the higher end, definitely recommend.

What is still on our to-do list…

  • Pill box hikes
  • Dole Plantation
  • Pearl Harbor
  • Paddle Board in the ocean
  • Surf lessons
  • Sailboat sunset dinner would be cool to do too.
